衰退；退化；逐漸衰敗；失去活力；老化；凋謝；破舊；身體漸弱；不修邊幅。

如果開花植物沒有被維護，它們就會產生種子。例如，生菜會變苦，一年生花會停止長出新芽，水仙和鬱金香第二年開花效果也會變差。這個比喻適用於任何過了巔峰期的東西──企業、房子或人都可能“退化”。“seedy”意為破舊或荒涼，早在一七二五年已開始使用。
